Sydney McLaughlin broke her own world record and triumphed with the women’s 400m hurdles title

American athlete Sydney McLaughlin broke her own world record and triumphed with the women’s 400m hurdles title at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene.

The Olympic champion finished in 50.68 sec, improving her own record by 0.73 sec set at the same track last month. Sydney McLaughlin, 22, is the first woman to run the distance in under 51 sec.

“It’s unreal. I’m grateful to God, to my coach, to my team. The credit goes to everyone”, said the athlete told after the competition.

This is the third correction of the world record in the discipline within three years, after Yuliya Pechonkina’s achievement previously stood for 16 years. Second in the 400m hurdles final was Femke Bol from the Netherlands with 52.27 sec, and third was the American Dalilah Muhammad with 53.13 sec.
