Swiss athlete Geraldine Frey

Geraldine Frey is a Swiss track and field athlete, who competes in sprints. She is a European U23 Championships Bronze medalist, national champion and three-time Diamond League meeting winner.

Geraldine Frey was born on June 19, 1997, in Zug, Switzerland. She started in athletics as a child and proved her skills during her school years.

Geraldine Frey started her competitive career in 2012, finishing 6th at the Magglingen Hallenmeeting in 60m. Although quite young, in the next season she earned the gold at the Magglingen Swiss U18 Indoor Championships and the bronze at the Magglingen Hallenmeeting in 60m. She also competed at the Zug Swiss U18 Championships in 100m but failed to reach the finals.

In 2014, Geraldine Frey debuted at a national championship, running at the Frauenfeld Swiss Championships in 100m. However, she failed to reach the finals, finishing 8th in her semi-finals. During the season, she earned the 100m silver at the Bern Nachwuchsmeeting, Sarnen Fruhjahrsmeeting, and Freienbach Abendmeeting, as well as the 60m bronze at the Magglingen Swiss U18 Indoor Championships.

Geraldine Frey continued gaining experience in 2015, finishing 4th at the Magglingen Swiss U20 Indoor Championships and competing at the St. Gallen Swiss Indoor Championships in 60m. She earned the bronze at the Basel Swiss Junior Championships and the silver at the Lausanne Athletissima in 100m. She competed again at the Zug Swiss Championships but again did not reach the finals.

In 2016, Geraldine Frey won the 100m and 200m gold at the Langenthal Swiss U20 Championships, the 100m gold at the Hochdorf Swiss Club Championships, as well as the 60m gold at the Magglingen Swiss U20 Indoor Championships. She also finished 8th at the Geneve Swiss Championships and was close to reaching the finals at the St Gallen Swiss Indoor Championships.

Geraldine Frey made her first international appearance in 2017, winning the bronze in the 4x100m relay at the Bydgoszcz European U23 Championships. In the same event, she also earned the gold at the La Chaux-de-Fonds Resisprint International. In 200m she earned the bronze at the Geneve AtletiCAGeneve and La Chaux-de-Fonds Resisprint International, while in 100m triumphed at the Lausanne Swiss U23 Championships.

In 2018, Geraldine Frey won her first national medal, winning the 200m bronze at the Magglingen Swiss Indoor Championships and finishing 5th in 60m. She triumphed with gold at the Aarau Swiss U23 Championships and silver at the Basel Hurden- und Sprintmeeting in 100m.

In 2019, Geraldine Frey earned the 200m silver at the Swiss Indoor Championships and also finished 5th in the 4x100m relay at the Gavle European U23 Championships. During the season, she earned the gold in the 4x100m relay at Pfingstmeeting in Zofingen and finished 5th at the Athletissima in Lausanne. In the 100m event, she finished 6th at the Basel Swiss Championships and earned the silver at the AtletiCAGeneve.

Geraldine Frey missed most of the 2020 season, as the sports worldwide were highly disturbed by restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic. The only professional event she participated in Take off-Meeting in Langenthal, winning the bronze in 100m.

In 2021, Geraldine Frey won the silver at the European Athletics Team Championships First League in Cluj-Napoca in the 4x100m relay. She also triumphed with the 60m gold at the Stadtwerk-Hallenmeeting and 100m gold at the ETCH 1st League Extra Races.

Geraldine Frey won her first national title in 2022, triumphing with the gold at the Zurich Swiss Championships in 200m, as well as the bronze in 100m. She also earned the bronze at the Magglingen Swiss Indoor Championships. She competed at the Beograd World Athletics Indoor Championships in 60m, and Munich European Athletics Championships in 100m and 4x100m relay, but did not qualify for the finals. However, she competed in the 4x100m relay at the Eugene World Athletics Championships, where finished 7th. In the same event, she earned the gold at the Athletissima Lausanne, BAUHAUS-Galan in Stockholm, and ATLETICAGENEVE – EAP. Meanwhile, during the season she won the 100m silver at the ATLETICAGENEVE – EAP and CITIUS Meeting.

In 2023, Geraldine Frey continued performing at the top level, winning the gold in the 4x100m relay at the Chorzow European Athletics Team Championships First Division and Atletica Geneve – EAP, as well as the silver at the Weltklasse Zurich. In the 100m event, she earned the gold at the Weltklasse Zurich, the silver at the Atletica Geneve – EAP, and the bronze at the Bellinzona Swiss Championships, Montreuil International Meeting, and the 12th International Meeting “Citta’ Di Savona”.
