Mirjam Bjorklund is a Swedish tennis player. She has a career-high WTA singles ranking of World No 123, achieved on June 20, 2022. Mirjam Bjorklund has won one doubles WTA Challenger title as well as nine singles titles and two doubles titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit.
Mirjam Bjorklund was born on July 29, 1998, in Stockholm, Sweden. She was introduced to tennis at an early age and proved to have great skills for turning professional. As a junior, she was the runner-up at the 2011 Kopavogur Junior Open (Iceland) and 2012 Gothenburg Junior Open (Sweden) and won the titles are the 2012 Tennis Europe Birkerod (Denmark) and 2014 Deloitte Junior Cup (Denmark) for girls. She also played at the Junior Grand Slam tournaments – Wimbledon, French Open / Roland Garros, and the US Open in 2016 but lost in the first round.
Mirjam Bjorklund made her senior professional debut already in 2014 at $10,000 Bastad (Sweden). She reached the second round, losing to Maria Sakkari (Greece). Later during the season, she took part also in the $10,000 W15 Stockholm (Sweden), but lost already in the first round.
In 2015, Mirjam Bjorklund continue turning more attention to the junior tour due to her young age, but however played at three ITF tournaments – $10,000 W15 Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt) and twice at the $15,000 W15 Stockholm (Sweden), all losing in the first round.
Mirjam Bjorklund won her first ITF title in 2017 at $15,000 W15 Knokke (Belgium). During the season she was the runner-up at the $15,000 Brussels (Belgium) and reached the semi-finals at the $15,000 Hammamet (Tunisia) and $15,000 W15 Stockholm (Sweden). She also debuted in the main scheme of the WTA Tour at the WTA 250 Ericsson Open but lost in the first round.
in 2018, Mirjam Bjorklund won another ITF title at the $15,000 Brussels (Belgium) and reached four semi-finals at the $15,000 Hammamet (Tunisia), $15,000 W15 Gothenburg (Sweden), $25,000 Bastad (Sweden) and $25,000 W25 Obidos (Portugal).
Mirjam Bjorklund had a strong season in 2019, winning the titles at $15,000 W15 Monastir (Tunisia), $15,000 W15 Tabarka (Tunisia), and $25,000 W25 Santa Margherita Di Pula (Italy). She played at the Challenger tournament WTA 125 Nordea Open, reaching the second round.
The season 2020 was s seriously affected by the coronavirus pandemic and Mirjam Bjorklund played only at a few tournaments with her biggest achievement being the quarter-finals of the $25,000 W25 Zagreb (Croatia). However, during the season she played at another Challenger tournament WTA 125 Prague Open, reaching the second round.
In 2021, Mirjam Bjorklund returned with a tight calendar in the ITF Circuit. She won the titles at the $25,000 W25 Koksijde (Belgium) and $25,000 W25 Austin, TX (USA), as well as being the runner-up at the $25,000 W25 Trieste (Italy).
In 2022, she made her WTA Tour breakthrough, reaching the quarter-final at the WTA 250 Copa Colsanitas and the semi-final at the WTA 125 BBVA Open Internacional de Valencia. She also debuted at the Grand Slam, playing in the main scheme of Wimbledon, but losing in the first round to Ons Jabeur (Tunisia). Meanwhile, she won the titles at the $25,000 W25 Orlando, FL (USA) and was the runner-up at the $60,000 W60 Bronx, NY (USA).
In 2023, Mirjam Bjorklund started the season strongly, reaching the second round of the WTA 250 GSB Thailand Open and bringing the big surprise of defeating Alycia Parks (USA) at the start of the WTA 250 ATX Open in Austin.
