Johanna Rytting Kaneryd is a Swedish footballer who plays as a midfielder for Chelsea Women in the English Women’s Super League club and the Sweden national team. She is England Women’s Super League champion and World Cup bronze medalist.

Anna Johanna Rytting Kaneryd was born on February 12, 1997, in Stockholm, Sweden. She started in football at an early age and quickly showed great skills and talent. She started training with the youth club Tyreso FF, where later made her professional debut. She played for the junior Swedish national team and was called for the first phase of qualifying for the 2013 U17 European Championship.

Johanna Rytting Kaneryd debuted for the senior team of Tyreso FF in 2014 to play in Sweden’s Allsvenskan Women. In her first season, she gained 5 appearances out of 8 matches played in the league, but after the end of the season, her team withdrew from the competition. A month later, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd signed a year-and-a-half contract with Djurgardens IF DFF to continue playing in Sweden’s Allsvenskan Women. In both seasons with the club, they avoided relegation and finished in the 6th position and she had 41 appearances and 5 goals. Meanwhile, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd was called to the Sweden U20 national team to play at the World Cup Women’s U20, where appeared in all the matches.

In 2019, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd signed with Rosengard. Already in her maiden season, her team became Sweden’s Allsvenskan Women’s champion and finished as runner-up at the Svenska Cupen Women. She appeared in 21 matches in both competitions, scored 1 goal, and made 3 assists. In the 2020/2021 season, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd debuted in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, where her team Rosengard reached the quarter-finals and she appeared in 2 matches and scored 2 goals and made 3 assists. In the domestic league, Rosengard finished second at Sweden’s Allsvenskan Women, and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd appeared in 20 matches and scored 2 goals.

On January 28, 2021, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd was transferred to Hacken Women and signed a 2-year contract. She was one of the key players for the club, which earned the silver at Sweden’s Allsvenskan Women in both seasons, but also triumphed with Svenska Cupen Women in 2021 and earned the silver in 2022. Johanna Rytting Kaneryd appeared in a total of 44 matches in both tournaments and scored 14 goals. Hacken Women played also in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, finishing last in the group, but Johanna Rytting Kaneryd appeared in all the matches, scored one goal, and made 2 assists. Meanwhile, she made her debut in Sweden’s senior national football team, appearing in some friendlies.

In 2022, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd signed with England’s Women’s Super League champion Chelsea Women. In her maiden season with the club, Chelsea Women defended their title and she appeared in 20 matches, scored 1 goal, and made 3 assists. Her team also won the Women’s FA Cup and finished as runner-up at the Women’s League Cup. Johanna Rytting Kaneryd also appeared in 10 matches in the UEFA Women’s Champions League and her team reached the semi-finals in the tournament but lost to Barcelona Femeni. In the 2023/2023 season, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd continues being one of the key players for Chelsea Women in all the tournaments.

Meanwhile, Johanna Rytting Kaneryd played for Sweden’s national football team at the Euro Women 2022 and World Cup Women 2023, winning the bronze in both competitions. She also plays for the national team at the UEFA Nations League Women 2023. In total, she has 34 matches for the national team, scored 3 goals, and made 4 assists.
