Sweden qualified for the first Olympic handball semifinal

The Swedish team qualified for the historic first time at the women’s handball tournament at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, after definitely defeating the Republic of Korea with 39:30 (21:13) in a match from the quarterfinals.

Thus, the Swedes will play for the first time in their history in the semifinals of the Olympics. So far, Sweden’s best achievement at the Olympic Games was the quarter-finals in Beijing 2008 and Rio 2016. In the semifinals, Sweden expects the winner of the last quarter-finals between the silver medalist from Rio 2016 France and the world champion the Netherlands. The semifinal is on Friday (August 6).

The Swedes started very strong, both in attack and defense and by the 10th minute they were already leading 8:3. The Scandinavians continued to dictate the game and withdrew at the break with an advance of 21:13. In the second half, the Republic of Korea failed to react and Sweden calmly won after 39:30. The top scorers for the Swedes were Carin Stromberg, Linn Blohm and Jamina Roberts with 6 goals each for the victory. For the team of the Republic of Korea Kang Kyungmin and Kim Jin-yi scored 8 and 7 goals.
