Sweden opened the Women’s World Handball Championships with a 36-24 win against China

Sweden opened with a 36-24 win against China at the Women’s World Handball Championships held in Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The Swedish women dominated and led 22-8 at the break to reach a convincing success in front of their audience in Gothenburg.

Nina Koppang scored 6 goals for Sweden, while Sofia Hvenfelt and Jamina Roberts added 5 goals each.

In the other match of Group A, Croatia and Senegal ended in a draw – 22-22.

Defending champions Norway defeated Austria by 45-28 to record their second win in Group C. Henny Ella Reistad scored 10 goals for the Norwegians, while Lena Ivancok was the best scorer for Austrian players with 6 goals.

The third co-host of the championship, Denmark, delighted the crowd in Herning, kicking off their campaign with a 25-21 win over Serbia in Group E. Emma Friis and Kristina Jorgensen scored 5 goals each for the winners.

In the other group match, Romania smashed Chile by 44-19.

In Group G, South American champions Brazil recorded a second victory after 46-15 against Kazakhstan. The other favorite in the group Spain also achieved a second victory after 32-20 against Ukraine.
