Sweden defeated Canada in the battle between the last two Olympic women’s curling champions

The reigning women’s curling champion Sweden, led by skipper Anna Hasselborg, defeated Canada in the battle between the last two Olympic women’s curling champions. In the Chinese capital Beijing, the Swedes, who won gold in PyeongChang 2018, won by 7:6 against the Canadians, who took the gold in Sochi 2014. For Canada, this is the second consecutive defeat.

The Olympic medalists of the Republic of Korea and Japan also recorded victories. The silver medalist from four years ago defeated the Republic of Korea over the Russian Olympic Committee with 9:5.

Japan, the bronze medalist from the PyeongChang 2018, beat Denmark by 8:7 in a dramatic match after Satsuki Fujisawa scored three points with the last stone to solidify the victory. The teams play nine games each against each other, and the first four qualify for the semifinals next week.
