The most successful in the history of synchronized swimming, seven-time Olympic champion Svetlana Romashina announced that she is ending her competitive career.
“I am officially retiring, but I will remain close to the sport, I remain in our sports family”, said Svetlana Romashina.
Svetlana Romashina is a Russian synchronized swimmer that boasts 41 total gold medals from competing in four Olympic Games, seven world championships and six European championships. She has never placed lower than first at any of these events, and by adding two more golds in the 2020 Summer Olympics she broke all medal-count ties to become the most decorated athlete ever in her sport. In her remarkable career, the 33-year-old Russian swimmer has another 21 world and 13 European titles.
After leading the Russian Olympic Committee squad to victory at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Svetlana Romashina announced the end of her Olympic career.
