Suzanne Schulting set a new Olympic record at 500 m short track speed skating

Olympic champion in the 1000 m short track speed skating from PyeongChang 2018 Suzanne Schulting from the Netherlands set a new Olympic record in the series of 500 m at the short track tournament at the Beijing 202 Olympics and qualified for the quarterfinals.

The 24-year-old Suzanne Schulting was the fastest in the Heat 4 series with 42,379 seconds, improving the performance of the Korean Choi Min-jeong from PyeongChang 2018 by 0.043 seconds.

Defending champion Arianna Fontana (Italy), who wants to be the only female or male athlete to win nine Olympic medals, also advanced to the quarterfinals after finishing fifth in the Heat 5 series with 42,940 seconds.

Two-time Olympic champion Choi Min-jeong won the Heat 6 series, and world record holder Kim Boutin from Canada also advanced.

The women’s 500m quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals are on Monday.
