Ona Batlle is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a full-back for the English Women’s Super League club Manchester United and the Spain national team.
Ona Batlle Pascual was born on June 10, 1999, in Vilassar de Mar, Spain. She started playing football at an early age for Vilassar de Mar. She was scouted by FC Barcelona and joined the club’s academy. She progressed through the ranks, earning promotion to Barcelona B to play in the Spanish Segunda Division.
She played for Barcelona B from 2014 to 2017 and developed her skills and abilities, becoming one of the most prominent and important players in the defence line for the club. During the time she played also for the Spanish youth national teams and won the 2015 UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship in 2015 and became runner-up at the 2016 UEFA Women’s Under-17 Championship. She also was part of the squad and played regularly at the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, finishing third.
In 2017, the Spanish national team with Ona Batlle in the squad won the 2017 UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship.
In 2017, Ona Batlle signed with Madrid CFF after the club’s promotion to the Spanish Primera Division. She cemented her place as a starter during the season, playing in 28 of the 30 league matches including 26 starts as Madrid CFF ended their first Primera División campaign mid-table. The same season she was part of the squad for the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, but was injured in the first match and missed most of the tournament.
In 2018, Ona Batlle signed with the Levante, but an injury from the U-20 Women’s World Cup delayed her debut. She eventually made her first appearance in December 2018 versus her previous team. She stayed in the club for two seasons and in both the team finished 3rd in the Spanish Premiera Division and the quarter-finals and Round of 16 in the Copa de la Reina, respectively. Meanwhile, she made her senior Spain national team debut in 2019 but was left out of the roster for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In 2020, Ona Batlle left Levante after her contract was not renewed and headed to England to play in the Women’s Super League club Manchester United. In her maiden season with the club, she appeared in 23 of United’s 27 games during the season and was named Women’s Player of the Year at the end of the campaign.
