Spanish athlete Clara Fernandez

Clara Fernandez, a Spanish pole vault athlete, has achieved significant success in her career. She has been crowned as the Spanish U18 and U20 champion and has also is the Spanish U23 silver medalist. Notably, her most prominent accomplishment to date is winning the silver at the European Youth Olympic Festival.

Born on October 22, 2003, in Barcelona, Spain, Clara Fernandez has shown remarkable talent in athletics from a young age, particularly excelling in pole vault. She has consistently stood out as a multiple junior champion in various age categories in Spain, solidifying her position as one of the most promising talents in Spanish athletics.

In 2018, Clara Fernandez made a striking athletics competitive debut by clinching the gold at the Sabadell Spanish U16 Indoor Championships, clearing 3.66m. Throughout the season, she continued to impress, securing notable achievements such as a bronze at the Sabadell Míting Internacional and improving her personal indoor best to 3.81m. Her outdoor season was equally remarkable, marked by victories at the Castellon Spanish U16 Championships, as well as gold medals at meetings in Aviles, El Prat de Llobregat, and Sant Cugat del Valles, where she achieved her personal best outdoor vault of 3.85m.

Building upon her success, Clara Fernandez continued to elevate her performance in 2019, dominating the higher age group and claiming the gold at the Castellon Spanish U18 Championships and Valencia Spanish U18 Indoor Championships, where she surpassed the 4-meter mark for the first time with a winning vault of 4.01m. Her outstanding performance during the season culminated in winning the silver at the Baku 15th European Youth Olympic Festival. Additionally, Clara Fernandez achieved several gold and silver medals at various regional and international championships, further cementing her position as a rising star in the world of athletics.

In 2020, Clara Fernandez successfully defended her U18 national titles by winning gold at the Valencia Spanish U18 Indoor Championships and Tarragona Spanish U18 Championships. Throughout the season, she had an outstanding performance by earning silver at the Sabadell Míting Internacional Catalunya and bronze at the Míting Internacional D´Atletisme Ciutat de Barcelona. She also made her debut at the senior national championships, finishing 9th at the Madrid Spanish Championships. Despite this, she maintained her top position as a junior athlete, securing gold at the regional Sabadell Regional U18 Indoor Championships, Campionat Catalunya U20/U18, and Campeonato de Espana Federaciones Autonomicas U18, along with a silver at the Gran Premio Internacional Ciudad de Valencia and Sabadell Regional Indoor Championships.

Clara Fernandez achieved notable success in 2021 by finishing 10th at the Getafe Spanish Championships and claiming bronze at the Pamplona Spanish Club Championships with a new personal best of 4.05m. She also won gold at the Antequera Spanish U20 Indoor Championships and Campionat de Catalunya U20, silver at the Campionat de Catalunya, Monzon Spanish U20 Championships, and Barcelona Campionat de Catalunya, as well as bronze at the VIII Trofeo Diputacion de Castellon. Although she competed at the Tallinn European Athletics U20 Championships, she finished 10th in the qualifications and did not progress to the finals.

In 2022, Clara Fernandez participated in the Cali World Athletics U20 Championships but did not advance to the finals. She attained 11th place at the Nerja Spanish Championships and 9th at the Ourense Spanish Indoor Championships, while also defending her U20 titles at the Antequera Spanish U20 Indoor Championships and Torrent Spanish U20 Championships. Notably, she secured a bronze at the Zaragoza Trofeo Ibercaja, setting a personal best of 4.15m, and won silver at the Campionat de Catalunya, Valencia Gran Premio Internacional, as well as gold at the Barcelona Campionat de Catalunya U23 and Lleida Campionat Catalunya U20.

Continuing to gain experience in major forums in 2023, Clara Fernandez showcased her talent by competing at the Star Perche in Bordeaux, finishing 9th. She also achieved 8th place at the Madrid Spanish Indoor Championships, 5th at the Huelva Meeting Iberoamericano, 6th at the Castellon VII Memorial Jose Antonio Cansino, and 10th at the Míting Internacional d’Atletisme Ciutat de Barcelona. She also participated in the Valencia Mediterranean U23 Indoor Championships, narrowly missing the medals by finishing 5th.

Clara Fernandez continue being one of the most prominent and talented athletes in the country in 2024. She won the gold at the Sabadell Cataluna Indoor Championships, clearing 3.95m, and earned the silver at the Sabadell Miting Catalunya, clearing 4.01m. Clara Fernandez defended her Antequera Spanish U23 Indoor Championships and Burgos Spanish U23 Championships titles, but also finished 5th at the Ourense Spanish Indoor Championships, clearing 4.05m, and finished 6th at the La Nucia Spanish Championships, clearing 4.10m. She competed also at the Castellon GP Diputacion Csatellon – Memorial Jose Antonio Cansino, but remained fifth with the poor 3.90m.
