Spain smashed Serbia in Group A of the women’s basketball tournament in Tokyo

The runner-up from the last Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Spain, achieved a second consecutive victory in Group A of the women’s basketball tournament in Tokyo. The Spaniards prevailed with 85:70 (19:20, 22:24, 18:14, 26:12) over the European champion Serbia.

Serbia continued to lead almost until the end of the third quarter when Spain managed to turn result with a series of 14:3 points. This seems to have broken the European champions and in the last 10 minutes of the match, they were in the role of sparring partner, which allowed their rivals to record success with a difference of 15 points.

Alba Torrens played a great match for Spain with 25 points. Astou Ndour scored another 20 and Maite Cazorla finished with 17.

For Serbia, Jelena Brooks scored 16 points, while Yvonne Anderson scored 15.

In the other match of the group, Canada achieved a convincing success with 74:53 (16:15, 17:13, 16:11, 25:14) over the Republic of Korea. For the Canadians, this was their first success in Tokyo, winning each of the four parts of the match.

Bridget Carleton was the top scorer for Canada with 18 points and Natalie Achonwa scored 14.

For the Republic of Korea, Ji-Su Park finished with 15 points.

On Friday are the matches from the other two groups of the women’s basketball tournament.
