Spain qualified for the quarter-finals of the women’s basketball tournament in Tokyo

The runner-up of the last Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Spain, achieved the third consecutive victory in Group A and continues to the eliminations of the women’s basketball tournament in Tokyo. The Spaniards prevailed with 76:66 (23:13, 17:21, 20:13, 16:19) over Canada.

The Iberians started the match better and after the first quarter took the lead with 23:13. By the break, Canada managed to reduce its liabilities and the first half ended at 40:34. “La Furia” started very strongly after the break and maintained a decent difference until the end of the match. In the end, they won with 76:66.

Astou Ndour played a great match for Spain with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 1 assist, and Cristina Ouvina finished with 15 points, 7 assists, and 2 rebounds. For Canada, Kia Nurse scored 14 points.

In the other match of the group, Serbia achieved an extremely difficult success over the Republic of Korea with 65:61 (17:10, 15:14, 18:20, 15:17). The European champions thus secured second place in the group and qualified for the quarterfinals.

The Republic of Korea dropped out after finishing the race with three defeats. Aleksandra Crvendakic was the top scorer with 15 points, 4 assists, and 7 rebounds.
