Sofia Goggia’s recovery is running well

The recovery of Olympic alpine skiing champion Sofia Goggia is running good but the Italian will probably have to wait until the end of the week to find out if she will be able to defend her title in Beijing 2022 Olympics.

The Italian Ski Federation said a check-up today showed signs of improvement in Sofia Goggia’s left knee, a week after she fell heavily during the super-giant slalom at the World Cup in Cortina d’Ampezzo. The federation added that Sofia Goggia could increase his work in the pool and gym, while continuing her physical rehabilitation, while struggling to stay in shape in time for the downhill runs of the Beijing 2022 Olympics on February 15.

“Things are going the way we hoped. All I can do is keep working this way and at the end of next week we will reassess the situation”, said the Italian skier.

Sofia Goggia is recovering from a sprained left knee, partially torn ligaments, and a “small fracture” in the fibula of her leg. She is likely to miss the giant slalom on February 7 and the super-giant slalom on February 11 in Beijing 2022 Olympics. She will have to take part in at least one downhill run on February 12, 13, or 14 to compete, but it is preferable to start in all three on the new track, which she has never participated in before.

Sofia Goggia is an Italian World Cup alpine ski racer who competes in all disciplines and specialises in the speed events of downhill and super-G. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, she won the gold medal in the downhill, becoming the only woman to win Olympic gold for Italy in that event
