Italian alpine skiing star Sofia Goggia has questioned her involvement in the Beijing 2022 Olympics.
“I had two difficult weeks. Even being here is a success, but I can’t guarantee anything”, said Sofia Goggia. “The conditions are as they are. I still have some time, but I can’t guarantee anything, not even my participation in the descent”, added the 29-year-old Italian. She had a strong season in the discipline this winter and won four of the five World Cup competitions in which she competed.
Sofia Goggia, the 2018 Olympic downhill champion, was seriously injured after falling during the super-giant slalom for the World Cup in Cortina d’Ampezzo on January 23rd. This threatened her entire participation in the Olympic Games. She decided not to have surgery, but to try to recover in time with physiotherapy.
“I will do the best I can. I’m sorry I can’t be as competitive as usual, but that’s the way it is. I will take decision day by day”, said Sofia Goggia.
The Italian postponed her trip to Beijing and missed the opening ceremony. However, she confirmed that will travel for the Olympics, but her participation is not yet sure.
