Sofia Goggia didn’t even think about her injured leg during the last downhill training

Sofia Goggia

The reigning Olympic downhill champion Sofia Goggia said she did not even think about her injured knee during the last training session today, in which she recorded her fourth fastest time. The Italian, who suffered a knee ligament injury after falling badly at the start of the World Cup on January 23 in Cortina D’Ampezzo, will try to repeat her success from PyeongChang 2018 on Tuesday.

“I didn’t even think about my leg today. I was very focused. It was a good test, the last confirmation that after two descents and a few days after the injury I can focus on myself”, said Sofia Goggia.

She hugged the Italian team after the race but was much less euphoric than when she returned to the track on Saturday. “I felt great today. I had a good workout, I was good on my skis and that’s the most important thing”, added the Italian.

“I was not perfect in some lines of the track, especially in the last part I really had a bad turn at the entrance to the plain. Of course, I’m focused on tomorrow and imagine in my head the best descent that can be. My video analysis team will be extremely important”, said she.

Sofia Goggia was on crutches three days after the fall before starting an intensive rehabilitation program. She missed the super-giant slalom of the Games to give herself the best chance in her favorite descent.

Switzerland’s Joana Hahlen was the fastest in today’s training session with a time of 1:33.18 min, 0.23 sec of a second ahead of German Kira Weidle. Norwegian Ragnhild Mowinckel was third and American Mikaela Shiffrin finished 17th.
