The Olympic champion in snowboarding in the discipline “Big Air” from Pyeongchang 2018 Anna Gasser is looking forward to the Beijing 2022 Olympics. The 30-year-old Austrian is heading to her third consecutive Olympics in a relaxed atmosphere.
“I feel less tense this time because I already have this gold medal at home. At the moment, women’s snowboarding is in a good position, there is a lot of progress”, said Anna Gasser, preparing for her flight to China. “I feel that if I want to repeat the victory or if I just want to come home with a medal, I have to be in the best way. I will just try to enjoy the whole experience because last time I was stressed and focused on winning. But now that I have it, I feel like I can enjoy the Olympics a little more”, added she.
Anna Gasser said she was not worried about COVID-19 in the “closed bubble” in Beijing 2022 Olympics, despite the large number of people infected in Europe in recent weeks due to the omicron variant.
“I hope we can still see friends. In fact, freestyle snowboarding is quite international and it would be sad if we couldn’t snowboard together and if I couldn’t see my friends”, said Anna Gasser.
The Olympic champion revealed that the time before her departure was the most stressful.
“I feel that now everything is becoming a reality at the airport and I am happy that I managed to get here. I was quite nervous last week with the tests for COVID-19 and the protocols, but I have the feeling that I see the finish line. We are almost there and I think when I am in the Olympic Village, then I will focus more on sports than on getting there”, said the Austrian snowboarder.
Anna Gasser is an Austrian snowboarder, competing in slopestyle and big air. She qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics and showed the best result in the qualification round, directly qualifying for the final. In 2017 Anna Gasser won Gold in the Big Air event at the Snowboard World Championships in Spain. Gasser also had a successful 2017 X Games performance winning Gold in Slopestyle and Bronze in Big Air in Hafjell, and Silver for Big Air in Aspen.
