Slovenian athlete Agata Zupin

Agata Zupin is a Slovenian athlete specializing in the 400m hurdles. She is European U20 Championships Silver medalist, twice Balkan Championships winner, and seven-time national champion, but also competed at the 2017 World Championships where she reached the semifinals.

Agata Zupin was born on March 17, 1998. She started in athletics at an early age and switched between hurdles and sprints.

Agata Zupin started her competitive career in 2012, winning the gold at the Slovenj Gradec in 300m hurdles and finishing 4th at the Rijeka CRO-CZE-HUN-SVK-SLO U16 Match in the same discipline.

In 2013, Agata Zupin won the 300m hurdles silver at the Budapest CRO-CZE-SLO-SVK-HUN U16 Match and 100m hurdles gold at the Ptuj Meeting. During the season she won the silver at the 300m sprint at the Bled U16 Event and Cakovec U18 Meeting.

In 2014, Agata Zupin completed entirely in sprints, winning the 400m gold and 200m silver at the Ptuj Slovenian U18 Championships, as well as 200m gold and 100m bronze at the Ljubljana Slovenian Junior Club Championships. During the season she also won several more junior medals at local meetings in 200m and 400m.

Agata Zupin debuted at international competition in 2015, competing at the Cali IAAF World Youth Championships in 200m and at the European Athletics Team Championships Second League in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, in 100m and 400m hurdles. However, she missed the medals in all of the competitions. In 200m, she also finished 5th at the Velenje EA Classic Permit Meeting and won the gold at the Trnava CZE-HUN-SLO-SVK International U18 Match.

In 2016, Agata Zupin won her first national title, triumphing with the 400m hurdles gold at the Celje Slovenian Championships. In the same event, she also competed at the Bydgoszcz IAAF World U20 Championships. During the season she won the 100m silver and 200m bronze at the Nova Gorica Slovenian Cup and earned the 400m gold at the Nova Gorica Slovenian U20 Championships, Celje Slovenian U20 Club Championships, and Novo Mesto Slovenian Club Championships. She also finished 4th at the Velenje EA Classic Permit Meeting in 200m.

In 2017, Agata Zupin won her first international medal, earning the 400m hurdles silver at the Grosseto European U20 Championships. She also competed at the London IAAF World Championships in Athletics but did not reach the finals. At the European Athletics Team Championships Second League in Tel Aviv, Israel, Agata Zupin won the 200m and 400m hurdles gold, as well as the 4x400m relay silver. Locally, she triumphed with the 60m gold at the Celje Slovenian Indoor Championships.

In 2018, Agata Zupin won her second national title, earning the 400m gold at the Zagreb Slovenian Indoor Championships. She won the 400m silver at the Istanbul Athletics Cup and Wien Indoor Track & Field Vienna, as well as the 400m hurdles bronze at the Rehlingen Pfingstsportfest.

Agata Zupin dominated local championships in 2019, winning the 400m gold at the Novo Mesto Slovenian Indoor Championships, as well as the 400m hurdles gold and 400m silver at the Celje Slovenian Championships. She finished 5th at the Gavle European U23 Championships in 400m hurdles and earned the bronze at the Miramas Mediterranean U23 Indoor Championships in 400m. At the Varazdin European Athletics Team Championships Second League, Agata Zupin won the silver in 400m hurdles and the gold in the 4x400m relay. In her crowning event, 400m hurdles, she won the gold at the National Permit Meeting, finished 7th at the Palio Citta della Quercia, and 9th at the AG Memorial Van Damme in Bruxelles, Belgium. During the season, she also won the 400m gold at the Serbian Open Indoor Meeting and Istanbul Athletics Cup, as well as the 300m silver at the Ostrava Czech Indoor Gala.

In 2020, Agata Zupin won the 200m and 4x400m hurdles gold medals at the Novo Mesto Slovenian Indoor Championships and the 400m hurdles gold at the Celje Slovenian Championships. In 400m hurdles, she earned the silver at the 31st Meeting International di Atletia leggera sport soudarieta in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy, as well as the bronze at the Goteborg Friidrott GP. Agata Zupin completed at the 59th Ostrava Golden Spike in 300m hurdles but finished 9th. She also won the 400m bronze at the Ostrava Czech Indoor Gala.

In 2021, Agata Zupin won the 400m hurdles gold and 400m silver at the Kranj Slovenian Championships, as well as the 400m hurdles silver and 4x400m relay gold at the Smederevo Balkan Championships. She became one of the most prospective athletes in the country also winning the 4x400m relay silver and 4x100m relay bronze at the European Athletics Team Championships Second League in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria.

In 2022, Agata Zupin won three more national titles, winning the 400m gold at the Novo Mesto Slovenian Indoor Championships and the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay gold at the Velenje Slovenian Championships. She also won two more Balkan titles, triumphing at the 4x400m relay and 400m hurdles at the Istanbul Balkan Indoor Championships, but also won silver at the Oran XIX Mediterranean Games in the same event. Agata Zupin competed at the major international championships during the season, competing in the 4x400m relay at the Beograd World Athletics Indoor Championships, in the 4x400m relay and 400m hurdles at the Munich European Athletics Championships, as well as at the 400m hurdles at the Eugene World Athletics Championships, but unfortunately failed to win honor from any of them.

Agata Zupin started the 2023 season, but 60m silver at the Celje Slovenian Indoor Championships and 400m gold at the Zagreb Slovenian Indoor Championships. In her crowning 400m hurdles event, she won the gold at the Velenje Slovenian Championships, 23rd International Athletics Meeting Slovenska Bistrica 2023, silver at the European Athletics Team Championships Second Division in Chorzow, Poland, as well as the bronze at the Kraljevo Balkan Championships. She competed at the Budapest World Athletics Championships. At the European Athletics Team Championships Second Division in Chorzow, Poland, she also won the gold in the 4x400m mixed relay.
