Slovenia recorded a victory in their first match of the second phase of the European Women’s Handball Championship.
Branka Mijatovic-led team beat Croatia by 26-18 (13-12) in Ljubljana in the first match in Group 1 and occupy third place with an asset of 4 points. The Slovenians struck with five straight goals early in the second half to take a 20-13 lead in the 48th minute and were in control until the end.
Ana Gros was the top scorer for the success with 7 goals, and Elizabeth Omoregie contributed with 2 goals.
The Croatians are fifth in the standings with 2 points.
Denmark won against the outsider Hungary with 29-27 (14-12) and climbed to second place with 4 points. Emma Friis was top scorer for the winners with 7 goals.
Hungary is in the last sixth place without an asset. World and European champions Norway lead the group with a full asset of 4 points, starting tomorrow in the second phase against Sweden.
