Skeleton racer Katie Tannenbaum has criticized the IOC over coronavirus measures

Skeleton racer Katie Tannenbaum has criticized the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) measures over the coronavirus pandemic. The representative of the American Virgin Islands is under quarantine for the seventh day because of a positive test for coronavirus, feeling that her dream of participating in the Olympics is slipping away.

“The IOC will not even give a clear definition of what a negative test result is. It is really quite difficult psychologically. This is not the Olympic experience I imagined. They will probably just say that someone made a mistake. The IOC will not provide the final information in writing. This is disorganization that should not happen at an event of this magnitude”, said Katie Tannenbaum

Wednesday is the last day of women’s skeleton training in Beijing. “At that moment, I had to participate and successfully complete every activity in order to have the right to compete. I am not sure that I will be released from isolation in time”, added she.

Katie Tannenbaum was set to be the flag bearer for the Virgin Islands as the territory’s lone athlete but missed the Opening Ceremony due to positive COVID-19 tests that have left her in quarantine.

Katie Tannenbaum is an American skeleton racer. Originally from California, she competes on the Skeleton World Cup circuit for the United States Virgin Islands. She started in the sport in 2010 and began competing on the World Cup level in 2011.
