Four-time Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles refused to take part in the floor final after it became clear yesterday that she will not play in the high jump and mixed parallel at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The American withdrew from participation in the team final and in the individual all-around due to “mental” health problems. For now, it is yet to make a decision on whether she will compete in the beam final on Tuesday, but this will become clear in the coming days.
A tweet from USA Gymnastics said: “We’re all behind you, Simone”.
It means Great Britain’s Jennifer Gadirova enters the floor final having been first reserve.
The 24-year-old Simone Biles won four titles in Rio 2016. She was first on the ground, in the vault, in the individual all-around and in the team event, and took bronze on the beam. The American is also a 19-time world champion.
