Simona Halep returns on the court after CAS reduced her doping ban to nine months

Former women’s tennis world number one Simona Halep (Romania) will be able to resume her career as soon as possible after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne reduced her doping ban to nine months.

Initially, the rights of the Romanian were suspended for four years by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

Today’s decision by the court in Lausanne will allow Simona Halep to immediately return to the court. Simona Halep’s suspension took effect on October 7, 2022, meaning her sanction expired on July 6, 2023.

The 32-year-old former Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion recently admitted that her dream is to play in the Paris 2024 Olympics, but if the court in Lausanne does not reduce her sanction, she is likely to end her career prematurely.

Simona Halep has two Grand Slam titles and five finals in total, earning more than 40 million USD in career prize money.
