Simona Halep became the third tennis player in history to earn more than 40 million USD in prize money

Simona Halep became the third tennis player in history after Serena and Venus Williams to earn more than 40 million USD in prize money in her career, says the official website of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA).

On Sunday, former world number one Simona Halep won her third title at the WTA 1000 Canadian Open in Toronto and collected a check for 439,700 USD.

The Romanian now has a total of 40,107,097 USD, about $2 million less than Venus Williams, who earned 42,300,728 USD in her career.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams, who will retire after this year’s US Open, leads the list with earnings of 94,606,355 USD.

For men, seven tennis players have earned more than Simona Halep. Novak Djokovic (Serbia) tops the all-time earnings list with 158,996,253 USD, ahead of Rafael Nadal with 131,338,131 USD, Roger Federer with 130,594,339 USD, and others.
