Sifan Hassan won the Olympic gold in the 5,000m running

World champion in the 1,500m and 10,000m from Doha 2019 Sifan Hassan won the Olympic gold in the 5,000m, after today in Tokyo was extremely difficult and dramatic for her. The 27-year-old Ethiopian-born athlete, who competes for the Netherlands, won the Olympic title with a result of 14:36.79 minutes. Two-time world 5,000m champion Hellen Obiri (Kenya) won silver at the second consecutive Olympics after finishing second in 14:38.36 minutes.

Doha 2019 bronze medalist Gudaf Tsegay won the first Olympic medal of her career. The Ethiopian finished third in Tokyo with 14:38.87 minutes.

In the morning session, Sifan Hassan had a very unpleasant accident in the 1500m series, when one lap before the end she had a collision with another competitor, fell, and then continued to reach the victory in her series and thus secured a place in the semifinals.

In Tokyo, the representative of the Netherlands will chase two more titles after the 5,000m – 1,500m and 10,000m.
