Dutch middle and long distance star Sifan Hassan, who won Olympic gold in the 5,000m and 10,000m in Tokyo 2020, has revealed she is considering a switch to the marathon.
“I really plan to run a marathon. I don’t know when, but I think about it every night and every day”, commented тхе Ethiopian-born Sifan Hassan. Asked if there was an opportunity to compete in the marathon at the Paris 2024 Оlympics, she replied: “Why not?”
Sifan Hassan, 29, added a bronze in the 1,500m to her gold medals in the longer races in Tokyo.
“I did amazing in Tokyo, but it affected me a lot. This year is like a break for me”, said Sifan Hassan ahead of the 5,000m run, part of the Diamond League finals in Zurich.
“I have to have a very big goal and a very big challenge to move forward. I lost a few races, which gave me a boost”, she said of this season. “I’m in great shape, now I’m at my peak”, added Sifan Hassan.
Sifan Hassan also has gold medals from the Worth Athletics Championships in Doha 2019 at 1,500m and 10,000m.
