Chinese tennis player Shuai Zhang won the title at the WTA 250 Lyon tournament in France with a prize fund 262,000 USD. In the final, the 33-years-old Chinese player defeated the Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska with 2-1 (3:6, 6:3, 6:4).
For the Ukrainian, this was the first final in two years, but in any case, the participation in the final match brought a lot of emotions, given the war in her country. This participation in the final will bring her much closer to the Top 100 in the WTA rankings, but she is still out of it.
The Chinese Shuai Zhang, who is the world’s No 64 and 8th-seeded in the tournament, won the first title in five years.
Shuai Zhang won 5 of 9 break points against 4 out of 4 for the Ukrainian, but she made also less unforced errors – 13 against 22.
The 21-year-old Dayana Yastremska started the first set excellently, in which she took all her serving games, and also made a break for 2:4, closing the set with 3:6.
In the second set, however, she suffered two breaks and at one point the result was 4:1 for the Chinese player. She succeeded to close the set with 6:3, equalizing the sets.
The third set was very contested, with Dayana Yastremska leading with 1:2 and 2:4, but in the end, Shuai Zhang won the last four games and triumphed with the title.
