Shericka Jackson won the 200m world title

Shericka Jackson won the 200m world title in Eugene with an incredible result. The Jamaican athlete, who had two world bronze medals in the 400m so far, triumphed in 21.45 sec (0.6 m/s) – a new championship record. The 28-year-old Shericka Jackson, who also won silver in the 100m in Eugene, was only 11 hundredths away from the world record of the legendary American Florence Griffith Joyner and is already the fastest living woman in history in the discipline. Florence Griffith Joyner’s world record of 21.34 sec dates from 1988.

Five-time world 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce added another medal to her rich collection of honors, claiming silver in the 200m in 21.81 sec.

The Doha 2019 champion Dina Asher-Smith (Great Britain) was unable to defend her title, but she was back on the podium after managing to fight for the bronze medal in 22.02 sec.

The second-fastest woman for 2022, Abby Steiner (USA), was fifth in 22.26 sec, while two-time Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah (Jamaica) finished seventh in 22.39 sec.
