Two-time 200m world champion Shericka Jackson also won her second Diamond League Final trophy in Eugene. After winning the 100m yesterday, today the Jamaican was unbeaten in the longer distance as well. Shericka Jackson failed in her next attempt at the world record, but won with a new tournament record of 21.57 sec (0.3 m/s).
Marie-Josee Ta Lou finished second in the women’s 200m with 22.10 sec, and Anthonique Strachan (Bahamas) came third with 22.16 sec.
Twanisha Terry (USA) and Daryll Neita (Great Britain) completed the Top 5, but remained without honors.
Yesterday, at the 100m women’s event, Shericka Jackson won the title with 10.70 sec, followed by Marie-Josee Ta Lou with 10.75 sec and Elaine Thompson-Herah (Jamaica) won the bronze with 10.79 sec.
Shericka Jackson became the fastest woman alive and second fastest woman of all time in the 200m. She started her career as a 400m sprinter, winning bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, 2015 World Championships and 2019 World Championships. At the same competitions, she added medals in the 4x400m relays, taking a silver, gold and bronze, respectively. She earned also the gold medal in the 4x100m relay at the 2019 World Championships.
After Shericka Jackson shifted to shorter sprints in 2021 she won bronze in the 100m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, adding a gold and bronze for the 4×100 m and 4x400m relays respectively. That year, she achieved sub-10.8-second and sub-22-second personal bests in the 100m and 200m respectively and with her 400m lifetime best below 49.5 sec she became one of few women to reach such marks at all those events simultaneously. At the 2022 World Championships, Jackson won a silver for the 100m, gold in the 200m setting national record, and a silver for the 4x100m relay. She was also the 2022 Diamond League 200m champion.
