Shericka Jackson withdrew from 100m event at the Paris 2024 Olympics

Two-time 200m world champion Shericka Jackson will not be chasing an Olympic double in Paris after withdrawing from the 100m in the French capital. The news was announced by team manager Ludlow Watts.

Shericka Jackson, who suffered a calf cramp in her final race before the Games in Hungary on July 9, had a season’s best 100m 10.84 sec to win Jamaica’s national Olympic qualifier.

“She gave up her place at 100m. All the information we can provide is that she will not be competing in the 100m sprint. Shashalee Forbes is her replacement in the women’s 100m. I don’t know the reasons, I’m just dealing with what the result is”, said Ludlow Watts.

Jackson won bronze in the 100m at the Tokyo Games three years ago and has finished second in the event at the last two world championships. In 2022 and 2023, she won the 200m world titles.

“I think it was a good decision (to withdraw from the 100m). Coach and I made a decision, and it was in the best interests for both of us”, said Shericka Jackson. “I’m always at peace. You have to do the best for your body and your mind and your soul. I’m okay with the decision”, added she.
