Five-time world 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce won the women’s Laureus Sports Awards. She received her trophy at the ceremony in Paris. The Jamaican sprinter won the world 100m title in Eugene last year and has gone under 10.70 sec seven times in the event.
“I was thrilled to be nominated alongside such inspiring female athletes and to win this award voted for by some of the greatest sportsmen and women of all time. It’s just amazing. This is the sixth time I have been nominated in this category, so to hold the Laureus statuette in my hands finally is one of the greatest honors of my career”, said Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce after receiving the award. “When athletes are in the spotlight, it’s important that the example we set is as good as possible.m We have a responsibility to influence the next generation in a positive way and that is what the Laureus Awards are all about”, added she.
The Laureus Sports Awards honoring eight winners were held in Paris on Monday night for the first time since 2020.
Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is a Jamaican track and field sprinter competing in the 60m, 100m, and 200m. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest sprinters of all time. One of the most enduring track athletes in history, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s career spans over a decade and a half, from the late 2000s to the 2020s. Her success on the track, including her consistency at major championships, helped to usher in the golden age of Jamaican sprinting. In the 100m, her signature event, she is a two-time Olympic gold medallist and a five-time world champion. In the 200m, she has won gold and silver at the World Athletics Championships, as well as an Olympic silver medal.
