The American tennis player Shelby Rogers advanced to the second round of the WTA 1000 Miami Open after a victory versus her compatriot Sloane Stephens by 2-1 (6:4, 3:6, 6:2) in a match that lasted almost 2 hours.
Shelby Rogers started the first set with a break and lead by 2:0 and without any breakpoint by the end, finally was enough for her to win the set by 6:4.
Sloane Stephens had a fly start in the second set, breaking her opponent in the beginning and leading by 3:0. She had another option to break once again Shelby Rogers, but missed two breakpoints. However, the early break was enough and she close the set at 6:3 and equalized the score.
As in the previous two sets, the third started again with an early break, this time for Shelby Rogers. She took a lead of 3:0 and even made another break in the 8th game to close the set by 6:2 and win the match.
In the next round, Shelby Rogers will face the second-seeded Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus).
Anna Blinkova (Russia) also advanced to the second round after defeating Jule Niemeier (Germany) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:1), while Leylah Fernandez (Canada) eliminated Lesia Tsurenko (Ukraine) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:3).
Sorana Cirstea (Romania) proved her great form and eliminated Fernanda Contreras Gomez (Mexico) by 2-0 (7:6, 6:2), while Sofia Kenin (USA) defeated Storm Hunter (Australia) by 2-0 (6:0, 7:6) and Taylor Townsend (USA) won her match versus Anna Bondar (Hungary) by 2-0 (6:4, 6:0).
Chinese tennis player Anna Bondar had a hard start to the tournament after winning versus Anna-Lena Friedsam (Germany_ by 2-1 (3:6, 6:4, 6:2) in 2:21 hours.
