Shaunae Miller-Uibo will not defend her Olympic 400m title

Reigning Olympic 400m champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo will not defend her title at the Paris 2024 Games later this summer due to injury, the Bahamas Athletics Association announced.

Shaunae Miller-Uibo, who won Olympic gold in the 400m in 2016 and 2020, would be chasing a third consecutive Olympic title in the event. She had hoped to secure a place at the Paris 2024 Olympics of the Bahamas qualifiers, but the 30-year-old athlete was injured before the final.

She may get a chance to compete in Paris in the 4x400m medley relay, but that decision is still under discussion.

Shaunae Miller-Uibo does not have an individual 400m run this season. She thus became the third Olympic champion in just the last month to be made clear that she will not defend her title in Paris. Earlier, reigning 100m and 200m gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah withdrew due to injury, and 800m champion Athing Mu failed in the US qualifiers after tripping in the first 200m of the final and failing to find place among the top three.
