Nine of the competitors who will start on the streets of the USA have results under 2:20 hours, and 16 under 2:21 hours. Among them are two-time Boston Marathon winner Edna Kiplagat and Amane Beriso, who recorded the third-fastest time in marathon history at 2:14:58.

Sharon Lokedi made her debut in the New York City Marathon last year when she won the race.

The Boston Marathon is an annual marathon race hosted by several cities and towns in greater Boston in eastern Massachusetts, United States. It is traditionally held on Patriots’ Day, the third Monday of April. The course record for women was set by Buzunesh Deba in 2014, who finished with a time of 2:19:59.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has organized this event annually since 1897.
