Sha’Carri Richardson won the 100m gold at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest

Sha’Carri Richardson got her revenge and won the world title in the 100m. The American sprinter, who missed the Tokyo 2020 Olympics because of a positive doping test for cannabis, shocked her Jamaican rivals from the ninth corridor after extremely strong final meters. She cruised to gold with a new championship record of 10.65 sec.

The Oregon’s 200m world champion Shericka Jackson finished second in 10.72 sec, while five-time 100m world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce took bronze in 10.77 sec.

With today’s result, Sha’Carri Richardson tied for fifth place in the all-time ranking of the discipline with compatriot Marion Jones and Shericka Jackson.

The drama in the semi-finals of the 100m was full after 0.001 sec separated Dina Asher-Smith and Ewa Swoboda in favor of the Briton. In the end, both were admitted to the final, which featured nine contestants.

Sha’Carri Richardson is an American track and field sprinter who competes in the 100m and 200m. She rose to fame in 2019 as a freshman at Louisiana State University, running 10.75 sec to break the 100m collegiate record at the NCAA Division I Championships. This winning time made her one of the ten fastest women in history at 19 years old. In April 2021, Richardson ran a new personal best of 10.72 sec, becoming the sixth fastest woman of all time (at the time) and the fourth-fastest American woman in history. In July 2023 she became the US national champion in the women’s 100m at the 2023 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, running 10.82 sec.
