Sha’Carri Richardson claimed an emotional victory in the 100m at the Diamond League in Doha

Sha’Carri Richardson claimed an emotional victory in the 100m in the opening event of the Diamond League in Doha. The American achieved the best result in the world for the season of 10.76 sec (0.9 m/sec). This is also a new record of the tournament. Until now, the top mark was held by her compatriot Tori Bowie with 10.80s from 2016.

A few days ago, 32-year-old Tori Bowie, the 4x100m Olympic champion from Rio 2016 Olympics, was found dead at her home in Florida, and there were reports that she was seven or eight months pregnant.

Sha’Carri Richardson dedicated her victory to Tori Bowie, pointing a finger to the sky after the finish and saying the name of her late compatriot.

Sha’Carri Richardson leaves behind her two world champions in the 200m – the reigning Shericka Jackson (Jamaica) and 2019 Doha gold medalist Dina Asher-Smith (Great Britain). Shericka Jackson took second place with 10.85 sec, and Dina Asher-Smith was third with 10.98 sec.
