Serena Williams will be inducted into the US National Women’s Hall of Fame

Former tennis player Serena Williams will be inducted into the US National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, New York. The ceremony will take place in March 2024.

Serena Williams, 42, finished her professional sports career last season with 23 Grand Slam singles titles. She is the London 2012 Olympic champion in singles and doubles and has two more Olympic doubles titles in Sydney 2000 and Beijing 2008. The American has 319 weeks at the top of the tennis world rankings, 186 of which are consecutive, which is tied record for women’s tennis.

Nominations for the US National Women’s Hall of Fame are made by public boards, and a special panel of judges considers which ones to be inducted based on achievements that have had an impact on the social, economic, and cultural aspects of society and have significant national and worldwide influence.

“The 2024 inductee class has broken barriers, challenged the status quo, and left an impact on history”, the Hall of Fame said in its announcement.

Based in Seneca Falls, New York, the National Women’s Hall of Fame is the United States’ first and oldest non-profit dedicated to honoring distinguished American women. The hall’s mission is to elevate women’s voices, equip and empower changemakers, and advance gender equity. Next year, the induction ceremony will take place in New York City.
