Serena Williams’ retirement from professional tennis may not last long. The American said Wednesday that she may have more to do in her remarkable career and pointed to quarterback Tom Brady, whose “retirement” from American football this spring lasted less than two months, as an example.
“Not really, but I think Tom Brady started a really cool trend”, said Serena Williams in an interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America”. She previously made a similar comment in her guest appearance on the NBC “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”.
Tom Brady, who like Serena Williams is arguably the sport’s all-time great, retired from the NFL in February, but reversed his decision just six weeks later and began the NFL season with Tampa Bay.
Serena Williams announced her decision to retire from tennis last month and although she did not specify which tournament she would do so, she was given an emotional send-off by fans at the US Open. This happened just 12 days ago.
And now she is not sure if she will finally retire.
Serena Williams is an American professional tennis player. She was ranked world No 1 in singles by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) for 319 weeks, including a joint-record 186 consecutive weeks, and finished as the year-end No 1 five times. She won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, the most by any player in the Open Era, and the second-most of all time.
