Reigning women’s world volleyball champions Serbia will defend their title at the 2022 World Cup finals in the Netherlands and Poland. The Daniele Santarelli-led team literally gave only a game for the Olympic champions the USA and beat them by 3-1 (25:21, 25:20, 17:25, 25:23) in the first semi-final of the Women’s World Volleyball Championship played at the Arena Gliwice.
Thus, Serbia took a kind of revenge from the USA for losing the semi-final of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics with a 0-3 last year. In this way, Serbia qualified for the final, where they will defend the title. In the final, they will face the winner of the second semi-final between Olympic runner-up Brazil and European champion Italy. The final itself will be on Saturday (October 15).
On the other hand, the USA, who are world champions in 2014, is taking a step forward compared to the 2018 World Cup, when they finished in 5th place, and will play for the bronze medals.
Above all for Serbia was its star captain Tijana Boskovic with a great 33 points (1 block and 59% attack success rate) for the victory.
For the USA, Kelsey Robinson scored 18 points (2 blocks and 52% shooting), while Andrea Drews finished with 14 points (2 aces and 34% shooting), but it wasn’t enough for the win either.
