World champions Serbia and the 2023 Volleyball Nations League winners Turkey will face in the final of the European Women’s Volleyball Championship 2023. Both team qualified had hard matches in the semi-finals, but prevailed over Italy and the Netherlands to reach the match for the title.
Serbia defeated the Netherlands by 3-1 (25:21, 15:25, 25:22, 25:21), struggling more than expected in the match. Thus, Serbia will play the sixth final in its history, even the fourth in a row, and will chase the fourth European title after those of 2011, 2017, 2019. Amazing performance for Serbia had the star Tijana Boskovic, scoring 29 points (3 blocks). In double figures also the spikers Bianka Busa 11 points (2 aces) and Sara Lozo 11 points. Nika Daalderop, Celeste Plak, and Juliet Lohuis were the best for the Dutch national team, scoring 14 points, 13, points and 8 points, espectively.
Turkey had quite harder match versus Italy, but finally reached the victory by 3-2 (18:25, 25:23, 1:25, 25:22, 15:6). Melissa Teresa Vargas rallied Turkey, especially when she sparked the flame of her team’s comeback from behind with her effective spikes in the fourth set. Melissa Teresa Vargas scored 26 points in the match, while Italy’s Paola Egonu played with 25 points.
The European Women’s Volleyball Championship 2023 final is on September 3, while on the same day, but earlier is the small final between the Netherlands and Italy.
