The two-time Olympic and world champion Sandra Perkovic won the gold in the Stockholm Diamond League discus throw. The 33-year-old Croatian won the competition with 64.49m. She registered her strongest result today in the second attempt. The competition was held in extremely difficult weather conditions – continuous rain and low temperatures, and this was the main reason for the not very impressive performance of the female athletes.
Jorinde van Klinken from the Netherlands took second place with 62.96m, and Kristin Pudenz from Germany took third place with 62.33 m.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic discus champion Valarie Allman failed to make a single successful attempt at the Stockholm Diamond League and finished with a zero.
Sandra Perkovic is a two-time Olympic (London 2012, Rio 2016) and world (2013, 2017) champion and a record six-time European champion (2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2022) which no other female athlete achieved. She is also a six-time Diamond League winner, prevailing in 45 circuit’s meetings.
Sandra Perkovic culminated her successful junior career by winning gold at the 2009 European Junior Championships with a new national record. A month later, she made the final of the World Championships as the youngest discus thrower in the field.
