Sandra Perkovic won her sixth consecutive European title in the women’s discus throw

Sandra Perkovic has long earned her place in women’s discus throw history. However, at the European Athletics Championships in Munich, the 32-year-old Croatian did something impressive – she won her sixth European title in a row.

The two-time Olympic and two-time world champion once again had a tough road to gold. She started with a foul, then cleared 65.77m to take the lead briefly, but the German Kristin Pudenz edged her out with 66.93m.

Two more fouls by Sandra Perkovic followed, but in her fifth attempt, the powerful Croatian showed that she is the undisputed number one and secured the gold with 67.95m. Kristin Pudenz tried to return the blow and in her fifth attempt she got as close as possible to Sandra Perkovic, but with a personal record of 67.87m ended up with silver.

The joy of the Germans was complemented by Claudine Vita, who won the bronze medal with 65.20m.

“I’m sorry to spoil their party, but I just won a sixth European title here, in this beautiful stadium, in front of these amazing fans. I am so happy and proud”, said Sandra Perkovic after the final.
