Sweden’s Sandra Naeslund wins Olympic gold in Ski Cross at the Beijing 2022 Olympics. She was the fastest at the big final, having a serious lead before the second Marielle Thompson from Switzerland and the third Daniela Maier from Germany.
Sandra Naeslund is a two-time world champion, holder of the Small Crystal Globe, but failed at the Olympic Games in PyeongChang 2018. She then won six of eight World Cup starts, winning the Cross Alps Tour. She was a total favorite at the Olympics in the Republic of Korea. In the final, however, she was last.
This time, however, she took real revenge. Again, she won almost everything this season, and at the Olympics, she was far ahead. Sandra Naeslund beat everyone in the final and took her first gold.
This year, her dominance was even more serious in the World Cup, winning nine of ten races. Before the start, there was some concern that the route was too simple and thus would increase the risks of close range and mistakes.
But until the final everything went smoothly for the champion, who won all her rounds. She took the lead right after the start and maintained her leading position until the end to bring the seventh gold to Sweden in Beijing.
Her time in the final is almost 2 seconds faster than that of the second contestant.
