Ruth Chepngetich defended her title at the Nagoya Marathon

Kenyan long-distance runner Ruth Chepngetich convincingly won the Nagoya Marathon. The 2019 world champion took the lead with a time of 2:18:08 hours and failed to beat her own course record of 2:17:18 hours.

Japanese athletes took second and third place. Ayuko Suzuki was second in 2:21:52 hours and Honami Maeda finished third in 2:22:32 hours.

“I am happy that I defended my title. The race was good. It was not easy for me to run alone, but I am happy and proud of my success today”, said Ruth Chepngetich after her victory.

Ruth Chepngetich is a Kenyan road racing athlete, who competes in the marathon and other long-distance events. She was the 2019 Marathon World champion in hot and humid conditions. Ruth Chepngetich twice won the Chicago Marathon, in 2021 and 2022. Her personal best in the marathon sits second on the world’s all-time list. She holds the third-fastest mark of all time for the half marathon. She also has gold in the marathon at the 2019 World Championships in Doha.
