Veronika Kudermetova is a Russian professional tennis player. She has a career-high single’s ranking of world No 9, achieved on October 24, 2022, and a best WTA doubles ranking of No 2, reached on June 6, 2022. She also reached a Grand Slam final, at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships in women’s doubles with Elena Vesnina and won the 2022 WTA Finals with Elise Mertens.
Veronika Kudermetova was born on April 24, 1997, in Kazan, Russia. She started playing tennis at the age of eight. As a junior, she won the 2009 Balashihha Open, the 2010 Lubertsy Cup, and the 2010 GD Tennis Cup U14, as well as J4 St Petersburg \ Governor Cup, J4 Beer Sheva \ Alex Podolsky ITF Junior Tournament, J3 Fergana \ Fergana Cup and TaTS Open in 2011. She reached the quarter-finals of the European Junior Championships in 2013
Veronika Kudermetova made her professional debut in 2012 at the $25,000 Moscow (Russia), losing in the first round. In April same year, she reached the semi-finals of the $25,000 W25 Moscow (Russia).
In 2013, she reached the semi-finals of the prestigious $50,000 Kazan (Russia).
Veronika Kudermetova won her first ITF title in 2014 at the $10,000 Astana (Kazahstan). During the season, she played entirely on the ITF tour and even was elected for the Russian Fed Cup team.
In 2015, Veronika Kudermetova reached the semi-finals of the $25,000 W25 Moscow (Russia) and the final of the $25,000 W25 Andijan (Uzbekistan).
Veronika Kudermetova debuted in the WTA Tour in 2016. She played in the WTA 125 Taipei OEC Open, reaching the second round. Meanwhile, during the season she won the titles at the $25,000 W25+H Imola (Italy) and $25,000 W25 Telavi (Georgia). She was the runner-up at the $25,000 Astana (Kazahstan).
In 2017, Veronika Kudermetova continue playing in the ITF and WTA Tours. She reached the quarter-final of the $100,000 Astana (Kazahstan) and WTA 125 Taipei OEC Open.
She won another trophy in 2018 at the $25,000 W25 Yokohama (Japan). She reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Libema Open and WTA 250 Ladies Championship Gstaad by iXion Services.
Veronika Kudermetova won her first WTA trophy in 2019 at the WTA 125 Abierto Akron Zapopan. She reached there semi-finals of the WTA 250 Libema Open, WTA 250 Hana-cupid Japan Women’s Open Tennis, and WTA 250 Tianjin Open. She played at the WTA 1000 Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open, reaching the third round.
In 2020, Veronika Kudermetova reached the semi-finals of the WTA 250 Hobart International and the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 AGEL Open and WTA 250 Upper Austria Ladies Linz. She reached the third round of the WTA 1000 Western & Southern Open and debuted in the Grand Slam.
Veronika Kudermetova made a real breakthrough in 2021, finishing as the runner-up at WTA 500 Abu Dhabi WTA Women’s Tennis Open, winning WTA 500 Credit One Charleston Open. She reached the third round at the Australian Open, the WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open, and WTA 1000 Rome Open. She entered the Top 30 for the first time and ended the season as the world’s No 31.
In 2022, Veronika Kudermetova made a fantastic season, finishing as a runner-up at the WTA 500 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, WTA 250 Melbourne Summer Set I, and WTA 250 TEB BNP Paribas Tennis Championship Istanbul. She reached the quarter-finals of the French Open / Roland Garros and WTA 1000 BNP Paribas Open, as well as the semi-finals of the WTA 500 Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic.
