Russian tennis babe Anna Kalinskaya

Anna Kalinskaya is a Russian professional tennis player, who reached a career-high of No 16 in singles at the WTA. She has won three doubles titles. Anna Kalinskaya also has won one singles title on the WTA Challenger Tour, and seven singles and nine doubles titles on the ITF Circuit. Her best singles performance at a major is reaching the quarterfinals at the 2024 Australian Open.

Anna Kalinskaya was born on December 2, 1998, in Moscow, Russia. She started in tennis at an early age and showed great talent and skills. She won the titles at the Palanga Open 12&U, Brodvejaus Pica Cup, and Kids Gomel Cup in 2010. At the age of 14, Anna Kalinskaya moved to the United States to pursue tennis. She also attended the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in France before moving back to Moscow to be closer to family. During her junior career, Anna Kalinskaya triumphed with the titles at the Muller Junior Cup Ulm, LBS Cup Waiblingen, Windmill Cup, Amos Mansdorf 1 and 2, and Gutysport Tennis Europe in 2012, as well as J4 Larnaca \ Trust Insurance, J60 Riga \ Riga Open, J100 Almaty \ Almaty Open in 2013, and International Hard Court Championship, Slovak Junior Indoor Tournament, and Aivaras Balzekas Memorial Cup in 2014. Her highest combined junior ranking was No 3. She won a total of sixteen titles, eight in singles events and eight in doubles. Her most significant title was in doubles at the 2016 Australian Open, while in singles was the runner-up at the Junior French Open / Roland Garros.

Anna Kalinskaya started her professional career in 2015. She made her debut at the $25,000 Sunrise, FL (USA), but lost in the first round. A few weeks later, however, she reached her first ITF final at the $10,000 Antalya (Turkey) but lost to Jia-Jing Lu (China). The same season she reached the Junior French Open / Roland Garros final as well and won the title at the Junior USTA International Hard Court. At the end of the year, she played another ITF final at the $10,000 El Kantaoui (Tunisia), but again lost to Ema Burgic (USA).

In 2016, Anna Kalinskaya lost her third ITF final at the $15,000 Manama (Bahrain) before winning her first ITF title at the $10,000 W15 Shymkent (Kazakhstan). During the season, she won three more trophies at the ITF Circuit, triumphing at the $25,000 W25 Minsk (Belarus), $25,000 W35 Aschaffenburg (Germany, and $25,000 Kharkiv (Ukraine). At the end of the season, she made her WTA Tour debut at the WTA 500 VTB Kremlin Cup but lost in the first round to Kristina Mladenovic (France).

In 2017, Anna Kalinskaya continued playing in both the ITF Circuit and WTA Tour, reaching the semi-finals at the $60,000 W60 Shenzhen (China) and the final at the $25,000 Batumi (Georgia), before winning the title at the W25 Obidos (Portugal). Meanwhile, she reached the second rounds of the WTA 250 BMW Malaysian Open, WTA 250 Ladies Championship Gstaad by iXion Services, and WTA 250 TEB BNP Paribas Istanbul Cup.

Anna Kalinskaya started strongly in the 2018 season, debuting in the main draw of the Grand Slam tournament – the Australian Open. However, she lost in the first round to Camila Giorgi (Italy). She reached the semi-finals at the $60,000 Zhuhai (China), $60,000 W75 Croissy-Beaubourg (France), and $100,000 W100 Contrexeville (France), as well as the final at the $60,000 W60 Shenzhen (China), but did not make some significant performance at the WTA Tour.

In 2019, Anna Kalinskaya won the titles at the $25,000 W25 Playford (Australia) and $60,000 W75+H Saint-Gaudens (France), but also reached the semi-finals at the WTA 250 Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington and the quarter-finals at the WTA 250 Tashkent Open. She played also in the main draw of the Australian Open and Wimbledon, losing in the first round, as well as the US Open, where reached the second round.

The short 2020 season, stopped the impetus of Anna Kalinskaya, who played entirely in the WTA Tour but did not overcome the first round to almost none of the tournaments she played.

However, Anna Kalinskaya returned in the 2021 season, quite more motivated and the results came soon. She reached the third rounds of the WTA 250 Abierto GNP Seguros and WTA 1000 Miami Open, while at the end of the year, she played in the fourth round of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open and the quarter-finals at the WTA 250 Courmayeur Ladies Open. Thus, she climbed again in the world ranking and ended the season as the world’s No 111.

In 2022, Anna Kalinskaya started the season by reaching the quarter-final at the WTA 250 Abierto Akron Zapopan and the third rounds of the WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open and WTA 1000 Miami Open. However, after the strong start, she failed to make some impressive performances during the season, before closing the year by reaching the quarter-finals at the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open Akron and WTA 250 Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington. However, she entered the Top 100 of the WTA ranking and ended the season as the world’s No 58.

Anna Kalinskaya won her first WTA Challenger title in 2023 after triumphing at the WTA 125 Dow Tennis Classic in Midland, MI (USA). Meanwhile, during the season, she reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Credit One Charleston Open, WTA 250 ATX Open, and WTA 250 Kinoshita Group Japan Open Tennis Championships, as well as the third rounds of the WTA 1000 Rome Open and WTA 1000 Madrid Open.

Anna Kalinskaya had a fantastic season in 2024 after reaching the quarter-finals at the Australian Open and playing in the final of the WTA 1000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. She also was the runner-up at the WTA 500 ecotrans Ladies Open IN Berlin and reached the fourth round of Wimbledon, which helped her to climb to the world’s No 16.
