The Russian national rhythmic gymnastics team will not participate in the Grand Prix tournament in Kyiv, Ukraine. This was announced by the President of the Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation of the country and head coach of the national team Irina Viner-Usmanova.
“Yes, the team will not travel to Kyiv for the Grand Prix tournament due to the current situation between Russia and Ukraine”, confirmed Irina Viner-Usmanova.
The tournament in the Ukrainian capital is scheduled for March 14 and 15.
“I am in favor of never mixing sports with politics. We don’t mix it. In this case, I’ll just say that Irina Alexandrovna is a great coach. She herself knows what and how to do in order for our girls to be in great shape and prepare for their most important competition in life – the Olympic Games”, commented the decision the two-time Olympic champion Svetlana Khorkina.
