The bronze medalist of the World Biathlon Championships Olga Podchufarova is ending her sports career, announced in her Instagram account. The Russian is participating today in a demonstration competition at Luzhniki Stadium.
“I would like to announce that with today’s competition I will be happy to end my professional career. I thank all those who have supported me for many years. Of course, I would like to express my deep gratitude to all the coaches I have worked with, the biathlon federation and the Russian Biathlon Union, because these were very bright sports years of my life”, write Olga Podchufarova.
The biathlete is a bronze medalist at the 2017 World Championships in the mixed relay. In 2018, she announced her retirement but returned to biathlon a year later. In October of the same year, Olga Podchufarova decided to join the Slovenian national team.
She never competed for the new team, as she was denied Slovenian citizenship. In January 2021, the 29-year-old Olga Podchufarova announced her plans to return to the Russian national team, participated in domestic competitions, but did not win prizes.
