The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) will not announce the date of the meeting, the decision or other details in the case of figure skater Kamila Valieva.
On September 14, RUSADA General Director Veronika Loginova reported that the investigation into the case of 16-year-old Kamila Valieva has been completed and the department for processing the results has started preparing all the necessary documents for the hearing in the disciplinary anti-doping committee.
“In order to protect the interests of the competitor who is a protected person, RUSADA declares that in accordance with clause 4.1 of the International Standard for the Processing of Results, all processes and procedures related to the case, including the charge and the final decision, are confidential. In strict compliance principles of international and Russian anti-doping standards and taking into account the nature and circumstances of the case, RUSADA does not intend to announce the date of the hearing, the decision or other details of the case of the Russian athlete”, the agency said in a statement.
In accordance with the statutes of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), RUSADA does not even have the right to disclose the name of a minor athlete. The RUSADA Disciplinary Anti-Doping Commission will notify Kamila Valieva of the decision on her case on the day it is pronounced. A statement of the decision may be made by the athlete or her official representatives.
The banned substance “trimetazidine” was found in Kamila Valieva’s sample from December 25, 2021. On February 8, 2022, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) imposed a temporary suspension on Kamila Valieva, who the very next day successfully contested this punishment before the independent disciplinary committee. The “B” sample of the Russian woman also gave a positive result.
Kamila Valieva was allowed to compete in the individual Olympic figure skating tournament at the Beijing 2022 Games, where she finished fourth. The 16-year-old Russian won the Olympic team title in Beijing. She also became European champion that year.
Kamila Valieva holds the records for the highest score in the short program, the free program, and the all-around for women in figure skating.
