The UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas will defend her title against Weili Zhang at the UFC 268 on November 6, 2021. The two will have a rematch in the Strawweight category. The location is New York, but it will probably be changed because they have strict measures against COVID.
Rose Namajunas and Weili Zhang fought for the title in April this year at the UFC 261. Then Weili Zhang lost her title after Rose knocked her out in 78 seconds with a head kick. Chinese fighter immediately contested the stoppage, but looked out on her feet, and has since been criticized for supposedly making excuses for her loss.
Weili Zhang has a professional MMA record of 21-2 and the loss to Rose Namajunas stopped her series of 21 consecutive victories. Weili Zhang has won 17 of her matches with KO or submission.
Rose Namajunas, on the other hand, has a personal MMA record of 10-4 and is in a series of 2 consecutive victories. She won 7 of her matches with KO or submission. Rose Namajunas has lost only 1 of her last 6 cage battles.
While consideration had been given to ex-champ Carla Esparza, who holds a win over Namajunas and who is on an impressive run of her own, the promotion is opting to run this one back. Carla Esparza was quick to comment, her response a simple one – heartbreak and shrug emojis, in a Facebook post.
