The Romanian track and field athlete in the long jump and in the triple jump Florentina Iusco will not take part in the Paris 2024 Olympics after giving a positive doping test.
The 28-year-old athlete has stated that she does not know how the banned substance furosemide got into her body, denying that she took illegal drugs. The Romanian authorities called for a lesser sanction and the return of her racing rights.
The representatives of the anti-doping commission have found that she is not innocent and will have to serve a two-year suspension.
Florentina Iusco is a bronze medalist from the European Indoor Championships in Prague in 2015. According to the decision, she will be disqualified from competing for two years, retroactive to February 1 of this year.
This is not the first case of doping at the Olympics. On Wednesday, Tunisian wrestler Amin Ghelichi was disqualified. The reason is that he refused to submit to doping tests and won his quota for Paris when he was banned from international competitions, Reuters reported.
